Thomas Yunqing Bai from our London office has been collaborating with with the Landscape Institute (LI) Digital Practice Group since 2022 to help organise the LI Digital Conference. Held in July 2024 Thomas was a speaker at the conference presenting on the topic “BIM for Landscape: Implementation and Appointment”.
An article recapping the learning outcomes and discussions from the conference day, was published in the autumn edition of the LI journal in 2024.
In the article Thomas shares the journey we’ve been on at Ares Landscape Architects since 2016 as we have adopted BIM as a practice standard. He reflects on the transformation in the industry from paper-based methods to streamlined digital processes, improving accuracy, collaboration, and efficiency.
We believe that despite challenges such as resistance to change, adapting BIM for landscape-specific needs, and managing data security risks, the benefits of improved project delivery and preemptive problem-solving have been substantial.
Looking ahead, advancements in AI, machine learning, and sustainability-focused practices promise to further enhance the role of BIM, underscoring its potential to revolutionize landscape design while prioritizing innovation, collaboration, and environmental responsibility.
