Broadmarsh Opens Today!

Its been a long haul, but after years of consultation, commitment and effort, the redevelopment of Broadmarsh in Nottingham took a huge step forward today. Originally envisioned by Thomas Heatherwick for Nottingham City Council, and landscape design further developed by Townshend Landscape Architects, we at Ares have been working hard over the last two years to realise this scheme with Wilmott Dixon Construction. This, of course, in close consultation with NCC, key stakeholders and the wider community.

Key design highlights include wide routes and informal paths that invite exploration, bordered by diverse planting beds offering seasonal interest and enhancing biodiversity. The integration of large boulders provides natural seating and visual interest as well as being a reference to the rocky cliff that Nottingham Castle sits on, ‘Castle Rock’.

The project also embraces sustainable design principles, such as the inclusion of water features and green spaces that contribute to stormwater management, adding a functional yet aesthetic layer to the landscape.

This project sets a new standard for urban green spaces, offering both environmental benefits and a welcoming city-centre environment for people of all ages.
