A new park will open in Kidderminster next month. We’ve been working with Wyre Forest District Council since 2022 on the design and implementation of Talbot Park. Located on the site of the old Littlewoods and Woolworths and with a 10m level change across the site the Park brings nature and green space in to the heart of the town center, improves connectivity and reveals views and vistas not seen for more than 60 years.

Play, improved pedestrian movement, nature and local materials are woven through the design to celebrated Kidderminster’s heritage. Increasing footfall in the eastern side of the town center and encouraging more people into the town center as a whole are key outcomes for the project.

The project has been the work of many hands. The design was developed with McBains, managed by Arcadis and then delivered on site by main contactor McPhillips with Lowther responsible for the planting. The demolished buildings have been crushed and left on site to give the formation needed to overcome the natural level change on site. A previously entirely impermeable site now acts as a greenfield site intercepting, storing and treating rainfall with as part of comprehensive Sustainable Urban Drainage system incorporating a nature based approach.
