The re imagining of Market Square in Staveley was part of the ambitious Staveley 21 town center regeneration program being realised by Chesterfield Borough Council.
Our designs included new tiered outdoor seating to support outdoor theatre and performances, and natural play equipment to help make the marketplace more attractive to families. New paving, lighting, street furniture and planting have also been installed, to help create an enhanced atmosphere and visitor experience
The project included a new pavilion building to house Staveley Library. A landmark building with traditional brickwork to help land it within the wider context of the town centre. As well as a ground floor Library there is business space on the first floor and the project aim is to attract more visitors and encourage people to support businesses based in the square.
At the heart of the square is a new sculpture which was created by artist Coralie Turpin and draws inspiration from the Cuckoo Boats which were unique to the Chesterfield Canal. It depicts nature scenes from the canal and features works created by students at Staveley Junior School and Netherthorpe School
