Part of Chesterfield Borough Council’s Staveley 21 project, and funded through the Staveley Town Deal, the project includes improvements to the market square the rejuvenation of the high street and the construction of a new landmark library building in the town center.
Our vision is to re energise an historically important public space with activity and purpose through high quality design, integration of play and public art to create a setting for the stunning new library building which is being bought into the heart of the town from it’s current location on the edge of Staveley
Thought has been given to the way space is used for events, markets and the everyday uses of a busy town center. The design has been informed by extensive public engagement including a workshop and site visit by a local primary school to get the experts view on what makes a fun playground! With an awareness of the town’s history the existing miner’s memorial has been relocated to a prominent position, and natural materials including stone and timber have been used throughout. The planting selected is consistent with Chesterfield Boroughs pallet which has been used across their portfolio of new public realm developments. Taking cues from the new perennial movement with year round colour is attractive for both nature and people.
