Borough Yards The MIPIM award winner 2022 for best Urban Project, was successfully delivered by Ares Landscape Architects for Wates Construction. The scheme involved the the transforming of disused railway arches adjacent to Borough Market into a centre for retail and entertainment. The vibrant new development consists of retail and leisure offerings within the historical setting of the Victorian Railway arches to create a series of linked external spaces, through narrow historic streets and Railway infrastructure.
The landscape was designed to compliment the stunning architecture and enhance the historic nature of the site. Simple but high-quality materials were utilised to strengthen the historic context and enhance the setting of Borough Yards and Market, whilst also successfully creating biodiversity enhancements in a very urban setting through thoughtful interventions and planting choices.
Ares Landscape Architects worked closely with SPPARC Architects to ensure the award winning scheme was delivered to the highest standard. The scheme has achieved a modern retail and leisure environment that will endure the test of time and knit into its historical surroundings.
