Residential

Bennerley Avenue Integrated Care Home

Landscaped gardens designed to promote resident’s well-being.

Working in conjunction with Glancy Nicholls Architects we designed a new dementia-friendly care home on behalf of Derbyshire County Council. Delivered by Wates Construction, the scheme provides local people with a fantastic new facility offering a 2 storey 40-bed specialist care home, a replacement for the nearby Hazelwood Care Home.

The site masterplan takes advantage of views towards the wider local area, including the Erewash Canal and nearby Grade II* Bennerley Viaduct.
The external landscape offering for the residents includes enriched private and pubic landscaped gardens and courtyards. It not only supports care home activities and general amenity but also promotes a sense of well being for the residents. The detailing of the building and landscape reflects its local context, providing an important sense of place.

The vision was for the facility to become a ‘hub’ for the local community, providing amenities that will support existing local projects including a public café, hair salon and a high-quality football pitch providing opportunities for inter-generational activities.
The project seeks to achieve a Gold Award for Dementia Design from Stirling University.
