De Warenne Academy balanced an element of refurbishment with a significant new building. The landscape design establishes a hierarchy of spaces from the most intimate school areas, from the new courtyard next to the dining hall, to the outer lying games courts. However, all external areas (both refurbished and proposed as new), have been detailed to ensure they are able to respond to changing school needs.
The landscape helps integrate the new buildings with the surrounding context, which is particularly important given its proximity to Conisbrough Castle. As part of the design response we made full use of existing mature tree planting to provide an outstanding natural environment for learning.
