The site has a large change in level creating an enclosed, sheltered sunken garden to the rear of the building at ground floor level and a raised terraced garden at first floor level. We used the contrasting situation and micro climate of these spaces to create two very different garden spaces.
The enclosed courtyard is designed to be a relaxing glade with bespoke seating and planters, water feature and wood-land planting with spring bulbs.
The raised garden is designed as a sun terrace for more active use as it is linked to the social rooms of the care home. We have included raised planters for growing, bird feeders and baths to attract wildlife, a decking area with activity space, a gazebo and a vibrant perennial planting scheme.
