Work Place

STEP / UKAEA Offices

A new HQ building for the UK Atomic Energy Agency at the Culham Science centre in Oxfordshire.

The new four story building will accommodate the STEP research programme and UKAEA teams. Working in close collaboration with the Mcbains, we’ve developed a site solution that integrates the building into the wider Culham Science Centre Campus. The design proposals have a focus on encouraging walking and cycling.

The design creates a central landscape square, enhances the mature tree belt with additional native understorey , and provides ‘garden’ spaces for staff and visitors.

Sustainable drainage is integral to the scheme and the landscape will be used to attenuate, treat and allow infiltration of water. The landscape design is suited to climate change adaptation, creates a varied hydrology for enhanced ecology and uses water for amenity and animation of public spaces. Proposals were submitted for Planning approval in spring 2021.
